The 45 Degree Deck

This project started with a bold idea—rotate the entire deck layout 45 degrees off the house—and it became one of our most striking builds. That single design move created dynamic sightlines and completely transformed the relationship between the home and the outdoor space. We layered in a custom pergola aligned to that same 45-degree orientation, adding rhythm and texture overhead while casting beautiful angled shadows throughout the day. Built-in bench seating provides flexibility for both everyday lounging and larger gatherings, while privacy screens give the space intimacy without feeling closed in. We love how this deck feels both grounded and unexpected—offering symmetry in the asymmetry. It's a great example of how rethinking the lines can redefine how a space lives and breathes.
